Surrounded by seas and traversed by swift rivers, Taiwan is a land shaped by water. Waterfalls, lakes, lagoons, sandbars, streams, ponds, wells, and springs—all these flowing waters form the landscapes of everyday life and collective memory. Wherever water runs, it nourishes the soil and the people who live upon it. As the saying goes, "A land’s water sustains its people."
Taiwan as Endless Streams presents a curated showcase of Taiwan’s local cultures and products. From river-fed agricultural goods and oceanfront ritual crafts, to healing items from misty highlands, tableware used for soups and stews, cultural journeys tucked into neighborhood alleys, music, film, and publications that portray the spirit of place, and artworks that express Taiwan’s voice through visuals and performance—each piece connects to the island’s many waters.
Whether natural or manmade, fresh or salt, rivers or lakes, reservoirs or harbors—these diverse water bodies intertwine to form the hydrological and cultural landscape of Taiwan. Through selected works, this exhibition invites viewers to rediscover Taiwan as Endless Streams through the textures of local life, creativity, and expression.
